Mette Astrup, Founder & Creative Director:

"We are proud to finally present the result of last year's dedicated work to achieve a more sustainable line in leather.

Our 'Roots Collection' is now a permanent part of Markberg's collections and contains products in vegetable tanned leather from LWG-certified tanneries - and with recycled cotton as lining. With this part of the collection we reach our first sub-goal of more in leather goods with a more sustainable profile.
We have in close collaboration with our partners developed a leather quality which has a butter soft hand feel despite the material being based on a vegetable tanning method, which is traditionally very stiff leather.”

KEY WORDS

”Roots” is a line of leather bags produced with a particularly sustainable profile.

The leather is based on vegetable tanning, which means the color is derived from plant extract such as roots, bark etc. This means the color is completely natural.

The leather is tanned in a tannery certified by Leather Working Group.

The lining inside all Roots products consists of 100% recycled cotton material certified by Global Recycled Standard.

All products are produced in factories which are SA8000 certified.

Hangtags are FSC-certified paper.

Due to the natural substances, vegetable tanning is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional leather tanning.

The Roots collection is a range of classic and “never out of style” items in soft leather.
